Duchamp the turntable came about as a result of a shipping accident – no lives were lost.  The process by which kinetic vibration is converted to electricity before emerging as music is more magic than science.  It is, for me, an alchemist transformation.  I bought a used TD 160 with the expressed purpose of using it as an experimental turntable, and in my head, named it Duchamp.   Contrary to my advice it was shipped with the outer platter in place.  It platter came lose and wrecked the turntable.   I was inspired by the irony.  Duchamp’s great work, The Large Glass, was smashed in a shipping accident.  Duchamp viewed the accident as a form of completion.  The turntable was smashed at the beginning and thus its destruction was an instigation.
